EXAMINATION SUCCESS – GCSE RESULTS SUMMER 2024
Congratulations and well done to the class of 2024 on their results this year. Year 11 GCSE Results Day is always a cause for celebration and we were delighted to welcome our students back and celebrate their achievements with them and their families on Thursday 22nd August. We are proud of each student’s achievements. This was a cohort who faced significant disruption to their education missing out on those important first years of secondary education. We would like to thank our staff for their hard work in supporting our students’ achievements.
We are pleased to announce that results have surpassed pre-pandemic outcomes and there have been improvements across all headline measures. Many students exceeded their targets and many secured the highest grades. The percentage of students who have gained 9-4 in both English and Mathematics has risen by 7.2% this year to 66.4%. 78% of our students achieved grades 9-4 in mathematics and 67.4% grades 9-4 in English Language. We are pleased to report that 41.3% of our students achieved the GCSE Basics measure grades 9-5 in Maths and English, securing for themselves excellent springboards into further education.
In addition to this the school has seen improved success rates for the highest grades. We were delighted that 242 grade 7-9s or Distinction grades were awarded of which 52 were at the highest grade 9 or Distinction Star. Grade 9s were awarded in Art & Design, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Spanish and heritage languages, RE, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and History. In addition, Distinction Star grades were awarded in Child Development, PE, ICT and Engineering.
Catherine Hughes, Headteacher, paid tribute to the great dedication and commitment of students, staff and parents.
"I wish to pay tribute to the Class of 2024 for their hard-work, determination and resilience, many in the face of significant adversity and I am proud of each one of our young people. We are delighted with the improvements made and are excited for the future. These results are testimony to the hard work across the school community and I would like to thank our staff and our parents for supporting our students throughout their time at Loreto. Our school is committed to ensuring that all students have an excellent foundation for their future education and career prospects whilst benefitting from the rich cultural experience of being part of the Loreto worldwide community. These results will allow more of our students to access not just the best college places in Manchester, but the best universities in the country. We look forward to hearing about their future successes as they embark on the next phase of their lives. Congratulations to all.”

We would to commend the following students in particular: Tim Louis, Niamh Bluff, Hannah Blackburne, Zuzanna Kurczynska, Jack Bell, Ifeoluwa Olanihun, Oscar Lee Ying Chi, Ludo Mkama and Natalia Hirsz.
